Luigi - Calendar cover boy
Luigi is one of the rescued Herefords we look after at the sanctuary. Like his 2 friends Dino & Benny he is a very large boy of the kind described by the meat industry as 'prime beef'. He was rescued back in October 2019 aged 18 month and literally on his way to the slaughterhouse.
George Duck
George is an Indian Runner duck and he has lived with us for many years together with his mate Evie.
Brighteyes
Brighteyes and quite a few of her friends were saved from going to slaughter at Colchester livestock market.
A supporter had bid on them and won the auction and then made arrangements for them to come and live at the Sanctuary.
Dino
Dino was one of 4 Hereford cows rescued from slaughter in 2019. One of our supporters had been walking their dogs past the field where the four friends lived and had over a period of weeks grown very fond of the boys who came over for a bit of love through the fence. On speaking to the farmer she learned that they were going to be 'prime beef'.
Rupert
Rupert arrived about 5 years ago after we were asked if we would take in a Cockerel that was going to be killed if no home could be found. He is the sweetest little guy with a very cute cockadoodle doo sound. He lives with his partner ingeniously named Mrs Rupert and their new friend Burt.
Bart
Here is Bartholomew Hornblower, the leader of the Highland gang! Bart was rescued in February 2021 due to the bizzare circumstances that his horns were so large it was proving difficult to manage him at the farm he was at, and in particular he couldn't get down the 'slaughter corridor' due to the sheer width of his magnificant appendages.
Bridget & Jemimah
Bridget was rescued as a very tiny piglet. She was brought to the sanctuary and hand reared. Initially known as Bridget the Fidget for reasons you can probablyt imagine. It is hard to think of her ever being small enough to fit in the palm of your hand as she is now one of the largest piggies at the sanctuary.
Audrey
Audrey was one of many Turkeys we gave sanctuary to a few years ago after she and her friends had been rescued by one opf our supporters. Bred to be someone's Christmas dinner, she and her friends were spared that fate and cane to live at Tower Hill Stables joining our existing gang of rescued Turkeys.
