Penelope

Hello, this Penelope. You would be forgiven for wondering what sort of animal Penelope is, she defies categorisation. Penelope is a gorgeous double Lionhead rescue rabbit from Richmond. I adopted her when she was two years old because who could see this face and resist?

Also because I have a beautiful mini lop rabbit called Cyril who was looking for a bunny companion. Both Cyril and Penelope had been living as solo rabbits and now they are the best of friends, living as free roam house rabbits. They do absolutely everything together, whether its waiting by the fridge for me to get them more herbs, following me around asking why I haven't yet given them more herbs, or causing complete mayhem by distributing hay so widely that I will be picking it off my clothes and out of my hair when I least expect it.
Penelope had been in two different homes before I adopted her and of course in both situations her ending up in a rescue was not in the slightest her fault. She is the kindest, most hilarious and charismatic little animal who loves to role role around in sunbeams and will do anything for dried flowers. She has a fierce little growl when she has to defend her hay against Cyril's relentless attempts to steal her food and yet she cannot stop herself from making sure that his fur is kept clean and lying as close as possible to him in the evenings.

Bringing Penelope into my home has transformed her and Cyril's lives for the better in ways I never could have dreamed of. But it has also transformed mine. The quiet satisfaction I get from watching two prey animals so at peace with one another, and to observe their individual characters take shape as they grow in confidence is something that can never be overstated.
I cannot imagine what my mornings would look like without them waiting at my bedroom door to wake me up, or running up to me for pets (or more likely treats). Looking after them is a privilege. Their love and trust doesn't come easily, but when it does it is all the more rewarding.

I hope you enjoy the photos I have attached of Penelope.
